I’ve been loving slip dresses lately, I even included them in my recent post on fall trends. Because it’s so minimalistic, a slip dress is the perfect versatile piece of add to your wardrobe; it can be styled so many different ways.
For a chic date night, party, or cocktail look just add dainty heels & a sleek clutch and let the dress stand alone. You can add more dramatic jewelry depending on how dressy you’d like to be.
If you want something more casual, play with layering a leather or suede jacket & booties (Chelsea style is always a good bet) & a chain strap purse
This dress is sold out but I found some similar options, shop below!
I managed to come down with a horrible cold this week, so I’m definitely happy it’s coming to a close! Despite that, these are a few of my favorite things from this last week in August!
I’m loving this $20 corduroy dress, these round(ish) RayBan aviators, this sheer kimono top (I just snagged the last one in my size but they are pre-selling some more) and this super luxe looking Rebecca Minkoff bag (under $300 bucks!)
Also obsessed with this wet hair look Kim K has been doing lately… definitely going to try to recreate it this soon
I love Insecure and season 3 is not disappointing! Hope everyone has a fun-filled holiday weekend!
August is wrapping up quickly and I’m more than ready to start embracing fall. There are a few fall trends I’m super excited about, some new and some that I’m just happy to have back (like cropped wide-leg pants). Here are some of the pieces I have in my various shopping carts…
I’ve always loved leopard, but I definitely think it needs to be done in the right way for it to work. I like it best on basic shapes, ankle boots, midi skirts, shift dresses, wrap tops, t-shirts, etc. Basically, anything that would look good in basic black works in leopard and is just as versatile.
Anything checked is another go to print for fall. I especially like how it looks on mini dresses, jumpsuits & blazers. I’d pair these pieces with simple gold jewelry and a red lip.
I LOVE slip dresses. There are so many ways to style them– pair them with sneakers and a denim jacket for a casual day look, a leather or suede jacket & heels for night. I also like a t-shirt or tank layered as well so it looks like you’re wearing a midi skirt.
As a condiment I’m lukewarm on mustard, as a color I’m all in. It looks super cute in simple t-shirts & accessories but is also a great statement maker in something like a midi dress.
What trends are are you most excited about this fall?
I heard Jen speak on a podcast about how most people don’t focus on their mobility, joints, flexibility etc until its too late, and freaked myself out. Luckily she has a program that’s $15 a month and gives you mobility flows, HIIT workouts & core workouts to keep yourself strong in all the ways we neglect. I work out a lot but I’m not good at stretching and taking care of my joints, so I want to force myself to be better with this program.
Admittedly I’m a bad sale shopper, but I’m trying to be better. It’s hard for me not to focus on the season ahead and want to get everything that’s new, new, new, but this summer I’ve been seeing some great sale pieces that will work well into fall, especially if you’re in LA. Banana Republic has a great 40% friends and family sale going on right now, perfect for grabbing work basics & classic pieces. Revolve has a bunch of swimsuits on sale as well as cute skirts & going out tops. ShopBop is always my go-to for high-end pieces, they have some really cool items. I also love & Other Stories for their Scandi-cool pieces, like printed dresses & blouses. Last but not least, Reformation has a sale like two times a year, one of which is happening now, definitely some great finds like the set I’m wearing above!
When it’s super hot & muggy outside, the piece I immediately gravitate towards is a light, breezy dress that allows me to just throw it on & go. Perfect for summer parties (day & night) family BBQ’s or a date night, a good summer dress is your best friend during sweltering heat.
I’ve been a fan of pairing mine with minimal slide style sandals (see post of these as one of my key summer pieces here but for something a little more dressed up but still summer appropriate, I love a raffia or woven heel like this one.
On another note, UGH who else feels like summer is basically over already? Although I am ready to do away with this sweltering LA heat, I’m trying to live up the remaining summer goodness while I can. I feel like I’ve been in a bathing suit a whopping 3x this summer and it’s not ok… I need to start hitting up friends with pools.
When summer rolls around I’m always super excited about getting a ton of new pieces to add to my wardrobe, bathing suits, hats, rompers, jumpsuits, separates, sandals…. I want it all.
In reality, we can’t have EVERY single thing we want when it comes to our dream wardrobe (though mannn that’s the goal for me). But you can invest in a few key pieces that will freshen up your wardrobe and keep your look current– without blowing your entire paycheck.
Here are some of the key pieces you need for summer 2018
Whether its the ultra-popular Balinese inspired circle bag, or a large woven tote, a straw bag will add a dose of summery breeziness to basic outfits.
Flat Slide Sandals
The ideal sandal for the summer is simple, understated and chic. I love how flat slides are a bit androgynous and balance out more feminine looks.
Two Piece Set
Matching sets, whether they come in skirt, short or pant form, are the most versatile pieces for summer because you can wear them together or separately (duh). But really, they give you so much bang for your buck. I love tops that are slightly cropped paired with a high waisted skirt or pants because no matter what your body type, the waist is always fair game to highlight!
A Sexy One Piece
My favorite thing about one pieces is that they can double as bodysuits! I love a high cut leg and a top with a lot of support, but small chested girls can get away with some of those hot plunging ones (jealous).
A Day to Night Jumpsuit
Summer automatically makes every night even a little more casual, so you can get away with wearing more day-time pieces to happy hour, dinner, after-dinner cocktails and beyond, especially if you wear with the right accessories. A jumpsuit is the perfect wear-everywhere piece to take you from day to night.
My birthday happens to fall on New Year’s Eve, so I feel I have double the excuse to be SUPER extra when it comes to my party look. Is it sparkly, shiny or sheer? I’m on it. Over the top faux fur, studio 54 stye liquid mesh, aggressive party accessories that you really can only wear once? Down.
Even if it’s not your birthday on the 31st, I encourage you to go all out when it comes to your NYE outfit. It’s only the last day of the year 2017 once right?
